WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING Author: Mary Rita Schilke Korazan

A message every adult should read because children
are watching us and doing as we do, not as we say!

"When you thought I wasn't looking"

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator,
and I wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you feed a stray cat,
and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you make my favorite cake for me,
and I knew that little things are special thing

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I heard you say a prayer,
and I believed that there was a God to talk to.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I felt you kiss me goodnight,
and I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw tears come from your eyes,
and I learned that sometimes things hurt,
but it's alright to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw that you cared,
and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I
learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing, and I learned that those who have something should give to those who don't.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it, and I learned we have to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw how you
handled your responsibilities, even when you didn't feel good, and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up!

When you thought I wasn't looking,
I looked....
and I wanted to say,  "Thanks for all the things
I saw when you thought I wasn't looking."

We all will grow old one day!

We all will grow old one day and become and behave like a little child.
As a child parents are around to pick up their child who stumbles, take care of them when sick, feed them on time, give their medications on time etc.
But many parents when old have no one to lift them when they fall, take care when sick, feed them good and healthy food and check if they have their medications on time!
Need to know old age is a second childhood and just as we were take care of by our parents as children, the same attention and same care need to be given to our old parents and elders.
This is sad but a fact but God sent His Son Jesus Christ to restore relationships.
God will in the last days turn the heart of fathers to children and children to fathers.
Just because we walk tall today doesn't mean we will not get bent in future!

Why I believe what I believe!

Here below I have put together "Why I believe, what I believe". My understanding on "Leave and cleave" based on The Word of God. Please take time and read through.
We do read just twice in the Bible about "LEAVE & CLEAVE" First in the Old Testament in Genesis 2:24,"That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh." And in the New Testament in, Ephesians 5:31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."
From what I learn from God's Word "Leave and cleave" is not always literally leaving your parents but it sure is a matter of the heart, where the child no longer depends on his parents but begins a new journey with his wife, takes his own decisions on things concerning his family.
Many take the "Leave and cleave" to heart and literally turn their backs and walk out, Some even leave their parents in senior citizen's home, some wash their hands off them, some just have no time for them any more, some don't respect the elderly.
Yes as someone said, “What does this leaving and cleaving look like in daily life? It means that we no longer ‘lean’ on our parents, but on each other. It means that we do not allow parents to dominate our lives. We show them respect by listening to their ideas or suggestions, but we make our own decisions."
This is true, parents have to let the adult son cleave to his wife and not interfere in their choices and decisions. They need to allow their son to function Independently and hand over running of home, to son and daughter-in-love.
And children have to make a choice if theywant to stay on with their parents or move out.
But let not modern lifestyle, 'nuclear family' system, teachings of others, influence and overtake 'Biblical values' and standards.
After their children get married parents are to step back, let go and let children take responsibilities, give them their space, not interfere in their decision, their life and choices but still always be there only if children need their help or advice. The son finally has to make the choice if he wants to stay with parents or move out and both are Biblically right!
And what God wants us to do is more important. He cares for the old, He values relationships!
Isaiah 46:4, "Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you."
God's Word also says, “Children’s children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children." (Prov. 17:6).
A home that has grandparents is truly blessed! In Biblical times and in the past, elders were the most revered members of a family.
Wilford James writes, Quote> " However, a complete change has taken place when it comes to the elderly people and the place the hold in today’s society. They are no longer involved in the rearing of their grandchildren and have been replaced by daycare centers, the internet, televisions and videos games. The sense of family unity, love of community, respect and care for our fellow man instilled in children by their grandparents has all been lost in the absence of these valuable sources of knowledge and experience. The elderly folks in today’s society are treated more like old furniture than part of a family. They are dusted off every so often and taken out of the house for a trip to the mall or a fast food restaurant; or they are simple placed in convalescent homes wher they spend the rest of their life lonely and forgotten. < unquote.
In this age where people prefer nuclear family unit, both parents working, parents prefer their kids to be looked after by maids, and kids learn more from the TV and Internet. We stand facing a generation that has lost the understanding of what it is to honor the elders and seniors at home. God's Word says in Leviticus 19:32 “Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the Lord." Even when our Lord walked this earth, families lived in close communities.
I can hardly find example in the Word of God where "Leave and cleave" was literally put into practice but many examples of families living together. Here below are some Biblical examples! By using the familiar images of an Insula, Jesus helped his followers to understand the kingdom of God—a household of faith where God's family lives in close community. I think in the Biblical times "Father's House" was very important.
I just stumbled on this blog and was blessed.

And we need to study a Jewish wedding and why our Lord chose to follow the Jewish wedding pattern. We can learn a lot from a Jewish Wedding too! http://www.ldolphin.org/wedding.html
Be blessed as you study the "Jewish wedding" and more about the "Father's House!
Even in the Old Testament we see how Isaac brought his wife to his mother's tent and Jacob bring back his wife to his Father's home. Genesis 24:67 "Then Isaac brought her(his wife) into his mother Sarah’s tent; and he took Rebekah and she became his wife, and he loved her. So Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death."
At Bethel on the way to finding a wife for himself, Jacob made a vow, saying, “If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the Lord shall be my God." (Genesis 28: 20-21) and later in Genesis 31:3 "The LORD said to Jacob, "Go back to the land of your fathers and to your relatives, and I will be with you"
Read my blog here: "JACOB'S JOURNEY BACK TO HIS FATHER'S HOUSE
Genesis 35:27 "Jacob came home to his father Isaac in Mamre, near Kiriath Arba (that is,Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac had stayed. Jacob continued to live with his sons (Genesis 38-44).
Christin Ditchfield writes, "The Scriptures tell us that Jesus — God’s Son —has chosen us to be His Bride. Right now, He’s gone to get everything ready (to build on those extra rooms), but one day soon He’ll return and bring us home to His Father."

After asking a girl to marry him, the son would return to his village and build new rooms onto his father’s home.
Such family portraits are rare to see in this present age that promotes nuclear family lifestyle to be the best! Timothy inherited good values from his mother and grandma.
Also check: Korazin - The City
Studying the ruins of Korazin and other Galilean towns, scholars have pieced together a picture of family life in the first century.
"Korazin stood in the northwestern corner of the Galilee region, about three miles from the sea. The nearby cities of Capernaum and Bethsaida joined Korazin as part of the orthodox triangle, an area inhabited primarily by devout Jews. Jesus spent a great deal of time in the triangle area, living in Capernaum and teaching in the towns and villages nearby. Just north of Korazin lay the Mount of Beatitudes, the hillside where Jesus may have presented the Sermon on the Mount. Archaeologists have uncovered various ruins at Korazin. The remains of a synagogue, several buildings, and an oil pressing installation can be seen today. They have also discovered a Moses seat—the special seat for Torah readers—in the Korazin synagogue.

Even after creating man, Abba Father enjoyed a daily fellowship with Adam and Eve; He loved to walk in the garden (Genesis 3:8-9) and talk with them. But when man sinned they lost this beautiful fellowship they enjoyed with The Father God!
Abba Father wanted to redeem His lost to Himself! Galatians 4:5 to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship."
After fall of man, Satan has done a lot to mess and destroy not just our Heavenly Father's but earthly father's relationship with children and caused divide and disunity in families. But God takes pain to reveal His Father heart to us through His Son Yeshua and will turn back hearts of fathers to children and children to fathers. Malachi 4:6 "He will turn the hearts of the parents to their children, and the hearts of the children to their parents"
May we restore honor, dignity to elders in our families. What would Jesus Christ our Lord do is what we need to do!
And who says mother-in-law and daughter-in-law
cannot see eye to eye? When Naomi asked her daughters-in-law to go to their respective parental homes after their husbands (Naomi's sons) died, Orpah left but Ruth chose to follow her mother-in-law. Ruth 1:16 "But Ruth replied, “Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God."

God honored Ruth's choice! She met Boaz!
We look around and see some mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law having tough time seeing eye to eye and the world too teaches our kids
mother-in-law and daughter-in-law cannot enjoy a loving mother-daughter relationship. But Ruth and Naomi set a beautiful example by sharing a beautiful relationship. Naomi also found great joy to be a nurse to her grandson Obed. Because of Ruth's faithfulness she was the great-grandmother of King David, was one of the five women listed in the genealogy of Christ along with Tamar, Rahab, Bathsheba, and Mary. Please check my blog on Ruth and Naomi here: http://relationshipsmatter-julia.blogspot.in/2015/06/ruth-and-naomi.html
May we learn valuable lessons from these Biblical personalities and may God restore relationships that the enemy has messed up on earth! Time we listened to God's voice! The elderly need our touch, care and love!
As kids parents and grandparents give their best for us, let us not cast them away when they are old like we throw away the curry leaves and spices that added flavor to the curry! Our parents spend sleepless nights, sacrifice their time and energy to give us the best they can afford and when they are to lean back and rest, we so easily cast them out or more often turn our back on them and walk away. Some parents as they grow older, become forgetful, confused and are slow in doing things. They do not remember many things, don't take their medication on time, are not able to prepare nutritious meals.
Does that really matter to us?
Do we really care?
Even when on the cross He remembered His mother and did not want to leave her alone. He trusted John would take good care of her. And John took her 'into his home'
John 19: 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is yourson,” 27 and to the disciple,“Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home"
Jesus wants us to follow His example
John 13:15 "I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you."
Someone else may think one way and we may differ from their viw, but finally need to do what God wants us to do. His way sure is the right way!
Following Yeshua,
Julia

Such family portraits getting rarer by the day!!

Such family portraits are rare to see in this present age that promotes nuclear family life style to be the best!

Such pictures are just on special occasions.
Let not modern lifestyle, nuclear family system, influence and overtake #BiblicalValues and #biblicalstandards.

In Biblical times and in the past, elders were the most revered members of a family.

Leviticus 19:32 ‘You shall rise before the gray headed and honor the presence of an old man, and fear your God: I am the LORD."
If today we can't see eye to eye with those close to us, how can we dream of spending an eternity with them?

Abba Father enjoyed a daily fellowship with Adam and Eve; He loved to walk and talk with them in the Garden of Eden!
After fall of man, man had lost that fellowship with God and family relationships got strained. Respect for the aged was lost
★ But Jesus Christ came to restore the hearts of fathers to children and children to fathers and also turn hearts to Abba Father.
Malachi 4: 5 says, "See, I will send you the prophet Elijah before that great and dreadful day of the LORD comes. He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers; or else I will come and strike the land with a curse".

God wants to see His kingdom come on earth today, as it is in Heaven!
May God take us back to the ancient paths and help us understand and value every vital relationship.
Every relationship on earth matters to God!

Grandchildren are a crown to the aged

Grandchildren are a crown to the aged
A home that has grandparents is truly blessed!
God's Word says that Grandchildren are a crown to the aged and parents pride of the children!
"Children’s children(grandchildren) are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children." (Proverbs 17:6)
A grandmother's special calling is to pray & to be a fellow worker in the battle in which her children or her grandchildren are engaged."- Elisabeth Elliott
In Biblical times and in the past, elders were the most revered members of a family.
In this age where people prefer nuclear family unit, both parents working, parents prefer their kids to be looked after by maids and kids learn more from the TV and Internet.
But we live in an age when parents and grandparents are suddenly strangers as the world teaches us that parents and grandparents are a burden and is better they are left alone and not be a part of our family as we need our personal space etc.

 Wilford James writes,

Training and teaching our little children

Hi..
If we show our children when they are young the right path to take and tell them about the only way of truth(John 14:6), as they grow older even if they go astray or wander away, they will know to find their way back!
What they learn as a little child they will not easily forget!
And pray at all times for them!
Proverbs 22:6 "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."

Be blessed,
Julia

I fail to understand...

Hi...
This may be a long one, please read though, it is a overflow of my heart.
As a child I spent a lot of time with my grand parents because I lived with them. I still remember my Grandma take me for prayer meetings during week days(I was 4-5 years old)
As a child I remember my mom used to visit a home that housed some 'very old ladies'(senior citizens) with ladies from the church with eatables, warm-clothes, sarees etc.
In those days 'senior citizen homes' were a rare commodity. In fact mom said, she has never seen such homes in her younger days.
But now such homes are all over and all homes are full and over packed. It is a flourishing business for some.
Most of these homes run by Christians.
What has caused this increase and why are old people treated as 'unwanted', 'castaways', 'forgotten ones'?
This has always been my question to my Lord.
We do read in Genesis 2:24,"That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh."
Ephesians 5:31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."
Many take the "Leave an cleave" to heart and literally some children dump their parents in senior citizen's home, some wash their hands off them, some just have no time for them any more, some don't respect the elderly.
Is that what God wants us to do? He cares for the old.

Isaiah 46:4, "Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you."

I came across the Jewish wedding pattern and it surprised me what I read and then Jesus Himself takes His bride to His Father's house!
So, "Leave the Father's house", I am sure it was not meant literally.
After their children get married parents are to step back, let go and let children take responsibilities, give them their space, not interfere in their decision, their life and choices but still always be there if children need their help or advice.

Children have to make a choice if they want to stay on with their their parents or move out. Even if they don't live with them they are to care for them.

Jesus presented a beautiful picture of heaven when He said, "In my Father's house are many rooms, I am going there to prepare a place for you" (John 14:2-3). Jesus as a bridegroom, is preparing new rooms(mansions) for his followers in the insula of heaven.
By using the familiar images of an insula, Jesus helped his followers to understand the kingdom of God—a household of faith where God's family lives in close community.

Studying the ruins of Korazin and other Galilean towns, scholars have pieced together a picture of family life in the first century. As he taught, Jesus drew on many family practices that were common in his day.
The Insula
Jesus used the image of an insula - clusters of buildings where extended families lived together - to describe the kingdom of God.
In Jesus' time, families usually lived in clusters of buildings called Insulas.
These clusters were built around a central courtyard. Grandparents, cousins, uncles, and aunts all lived and interacted together in the insula.
As sons married, they added to the insula. After asking a girl to marry him, the son would return to his village and build new rooms onto his father's home. The son, anxious to be married, waited for the day when his father declared that the building was complete. Then he could finally marry his bride and bring her to their new home.
Jesus presented a beautiful picture of heaven when he said, "In my Father's house are many rooms, I am going there to prepare a place for you" (John 14:2-3). This word-picture presented Jesus as a bridegroom, preparing new rooms for his followers in the insula of heaven.
When Jesus described his second coming, he again used the picture of a young bridegroom, waiting for his father's approval to return for his bride: "No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, not the Son, but only the Father" (Matt. 24:36).
By using the familiar images of an insula, Jesus helped his followers to understand the kingdom of God—a household of faith where God's family lives in close community.

When Jesus said, "In My Father's House" He meant it! That was the pattern in a Jewish wedding.
I think we can see what we lost of the Father’s heart today in most marriages today.
Quote> When the bridegroom completed adding a room onto his father’s house, he would return to his bride’s house (usually at night) to retrieve her. Then the groom would take his bride back to their new home, “that where I am there you may be also.”
What a beautiful picture that for a year the "husband to be" had to go away expediently so he could come back and get her and then bring her "to the place' where He made for the TWO OF THEM TO LIVE TOGETHER in their own house but ONE CONNECTED WITH THE BRIDEGROOMS FATHERS HOUSE

Beloveds they were two different homes yet in the same house. The bridegroom made a new room, a new home for them to dwell together in the Father’s house. The new couple would be added to the purpose and plan of the Father for the Son had to learn the trade of the Father to carry on the family business. The bride and grooms room was separate but in total submission to the plan of the Father that was passed down from generation to generation.
I think we can see what we lost of the Father’s heart today in most marriages. This is why their is such an attack of the enemy because he hates marriages. He tries  to end them, not have people do them anymore, or pervert them by same sex marriages. Why? Because it is a picture of our life IN CHRIST and our RELATIONSHIP with Jesus IN THE FATHER AND HIS HOUSE!

The one function and purpose as a new family of the bride and groom was to become their own family but still connected to the Father's house and a vital part of that family to bring forth the family purpose and plans. <Unquote

When parents live in a small house and children get married and move out it is understandable but let not the modern life style, 'neuclear family' system influence and overtake 'Biblical values' and standards.

Timothy inherited good values from his grand mom.
The elderly need our touch, care, love! As kids parents and grandparents give their best for us, let us not cast them away when they are old like we throw away the curry leaves and spices that added flavor to the curry!
What would Jesus Christ our Lord do is what we need to do!
Even when on the cross, He remembered His mother and did not want to leave her alone. He trusted John to take good care of her!
John 19: 26 When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,[b] here is your son,” 27 and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.
Time to restore dignity and honor!
Someone asks, “If your Mother/Dad is too old and bedridden needs 24-hour supervision and the only choices you have is for Mom/Dad to live with you or in a nursing home or senior citizen home, what would you do?"
If you can afford to pay money to a senior citizen's home to keep your aged parent in there, won't they be happier to stay close to you (if you have a spare room to spare) and a nurse take care if you can't?
"If you have a child who is totally bed-ridden, physically challenged, unable to eat or drink on his/her own, would you keep him or her in a nursing home for ever or abandon him/her in an orphanage? Wouldn't you wish they stayed under your care? Even if you had a maid to assist you, you will not want to abandon your child."
Our parents spend sleepless nights, sacrifice their time and energy to give us the best and when they are old we so easily cast them out, get rid of them.
Parents when old become forgetful, confused and are slow in doing things. They do not remember many things, don't take their medication on time, are not able to prepare nutritious meals. Does that really matter to us? Do we really care?

What would Jesus Christ our Lord do in such a situation or any situation is what matters.
I would rather follow the Rabbi, our Good Shepherd. He valued relationships. He came to turn the heart of fathers to children and children to fathers(Malachi 4:5-6).
Be blessed,
Julia
